These 40 Days: Week 5
Hebrew Communion
I’m still reveling in our worship service this past Sunday! “Breaking the Matzo”
Thanks to Melissa Mirick for helping us with announcements this week. It’s always great to have a different voice letting us know what’s going on.
And we had more people worshiping with us than we have in a couple of years. (Thank you, Covid-19!) In fact, Bob Harrison, who preached Sunday morning, invited a neighbor who showed up for our service! Inviting folks still works!
As I was changing slides during the songs, my eyes were filled with tears as I reveled in the presence of God. Rev. Bob Harrison opened the Word and reminded us that Jesus was the bread broken for us. Receiving communion was more special as we used the matzos that Brother Harrison had talked about in his sermon.
From the days of the Exodus from Egypt, Jews have used matzos as part of their Passover celebration. It’s what Jesus took from the table at the last supper and declared, “This is my body which is broken for you.” And the cup he lifted was also a part of the supper. “This is my blood which is shed for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”
It was good to be together with God’s people and to hear the Word from God’s minister. I pray that the presence of God will be with you through this coming week. Take the time this week to remember what Christ did for us on the cross.
Remember that we are coming to Palm Sunday this week, followed by Good Friday and Easter the next week. Also, Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday are great times to invite someone to church with you. And we will have a Good Friday service at 6:30.
If you didn’t make it to church, you can catch up on Facebook or YouTube. We’ve even started streaming to Twitter, so you can check that out, too.
Oh, and don’t forget that grow groups have started again for children, so there is once again a learning time for everyone!
Have a blessed week!
